What Do Consultants Do?

ASSESSMENT:

Consultants attend meetings, make home, school and community visits.  They observe in the natural environment to determine what is needed to meet individual goals by setting up specific objectives.  Consultants always complete Functional Behavior Analyses (FBA's) during observations.

Consultants also develop individualized Lesson Plans to teach specific skills, and develop Behavior Intervention Plans to decrease interfering behaviors.

IMPLEMENTATION:

Consultants make verbal recommendations which are documented in written Visit Notes within two weeks.

Consultants assist clients in carrying out recommendations contained in the Visit Notes.  They provide support by modeling procedures. Consultants also work directly with students, teachers and families, develop materials, and insure that the recommendations they make can be implemented.

Consultants incorporate principles and techniques from various fields which include, but are not limited to: incidental language interventions, inclusion, sensory integration, Social Stories, augmentative communication systems, and principles of applied behavior analysis.

EVALUATION:

Consultants collect and summarize data on both skills and behaviors so that progress can be objectively measured.
